About

Shurr Adventures runs guided kayak tours out of Everglades City, taking small groups into the mangrove tunnels and waterways of the Ten Thousand Islands region. Tours run two to three hours, with options including a sunrise mangrove tunnel tour that launches just before first light. The group sizes stay small, which means your guide actually has time to talk to you.

And the guides are genuinely the story here. Wade, Michaela, Trevor, Jason, Joe: reviewers name them specifically, which tells you something. These aren't people reading from a script. They know the ecosystem, they know the wildlife, and they seem to actually enjoy sharing it.

The Turner River route is a popular pick for the three-hour tours. Expect gators on the banks, herons overhead, ospreys nesting, and turtles drifting past your kayak. The mangrove tunnel tours feel like paddling into another world entirely: calm water, dense canopy, sounds of birds and paddles. It's the kind of quiet that's hard to find anywhere else in South Florida.

Everglades City sits on the Gulf Coast side of the park, about 35 miles south of Naples and a world away from the main Homestead entrance. If you're coming from Miami or the Keys, build in the drive time. It's worth it. The Ten Thousand Islands are one of the most ecologically wild corners of Florida, and a guided kayak is one of the best ways to actually get into them.

We did the 3-hour kayaking tour with Wade and it was absolutely amazing, I am so glad that we decided to do this! Wade was so kind, knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed getting to know him, as well as the others on the tour. It was the perfect size group, my fiancé and I, and then 5 other ladies. Nice weather, and the mangroves were so neat. I was a little apprehensive about snakes/spiders but we were enjoying it so much that it didn't matter ha. Kind of neat seeing the gators and here we are in a kayak not far off the water, an experience I will never forget. We definitely plan to do this again when we go back, as well as look them up when we head to Yellowstone! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I joined the 2-hour Everglades kayaking tour with Shurr Adventures and it was fantastic. My guides, Michaela and Trevor, were incredibly friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about the Everglades. They shared a lot of fascinating knowledge about the ecosystem, wildlife, and the area throughout the tour. The paddle itself was relaxed and very enjoyable — about two hours through beautiful mangrove tunnels and freshwater sections of the Everglades. The scenery was stunning and we saw plenty of wildlife along the way. The kayaks were very stable and comfortable, making the experience accessible even for beginners. If you’re looking for a shorter Everglades experience that still gives you a real feel for the environment and wildlife, I highly recommend this tour. It’s well organized, informative, and simply a great way to spend a couple of hours in nature. Thank you to Michaela and the team at Shurr Adventures for a wonderful experience.

Wow! The sunrise mangrove tunnel tour with Wade @ Shurr Adventures was absolutely amazing. We launched just before sunrise and soon found ourselves in a beautiful and mysterious mangrove wonderland. The river was so calm, and the only sounds were the soft splashes of our paddles along with the calls of the awakening birds. The birds were out in force! We saw a wonderful variety and heard even more. As the sun came up, the alligators and turtles began to appear everywhere. Wade is such an awesome guide. He kept us quite engaged by his broad knowledge of the wildlife, flora and history surrounding us. Much thanks goes to Shurr Adventures, and especially, to Wade who made the experience so truly special! (As we were pulling up to the launch, LOTS of kayakers were putting in, so if you love the quiet and calm of just you and the wildlife, then get up early and go. You won’t regret it!)

We did the 3 hr kayaking excursion on the Turner River. Joe was our guide. We had an amazing time! I was a bit nervous about being in the water near gators but the kayaks they use are super sturdy. I was in a tandem ayak with my 10 year old son who was not super stable and still in the kayak but I felt 100% safe even when a gator was swimming 10 feet away from our kayaks. Joe was great to help us when we got stuck a few times. It got pretty tight in the mangroves but that made it even more fun. We saw a lot of gators (even babies!) and other wildlife. Joe was super knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and the ones we didn't think to ask. He was a great guide and I learned so much from him about the wildlife, plant life and history of the area. It was really easy to make a reservation online. Confirmation and instructions were clear and easy to understand. Great communication with this company. We will definitely use Shurr in the future. Next year, we will be back to do the Marco Island kayaking trip and Joe talked us into doing a Yellowstone kayak tour in the summer. We definitely recommend this company for a trusted guided tour experience.

We went for a 3 hour 2 PM tour with Jason Sine as our guide, and we had an amazing time! We saw baby gators with their mom, and a huge 12 foot gator chilling on the bank of the river. We saw herons, ospreys in their nest, and fish and turtles swimming by our kayaks. As the website promises, you go through three different types of biomes, one of which are the mangrove tunnels. We were deeply impressed by the beauty of the area, and by how knowledgeable our guide Jason was. He told us about the everglades ecosystem and about special plants (orchids!) and animals we saw along the way. We highly recommend doing a kayak tour with Shurr Adventures!
