Weather & Seasons
The Everglades runs on two seasons: a hot, humid wet season (May–October) with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and peak mosquito activity, and a mild, dry season (November–April) that's far more comfortable for hiking and wildlife viewing. Winter mornings are cooler, bugs are scarce, and alligators concentrate around shrinking water holes — the best time to spot them.

Everglades National Park's main entrance is near Homestead and Florida City, about 45 minutes southwest of Miami. The Shark Valley entrance off the Tamiami Trail is closer to Miami's western suburbs, and the Gulf Coast entrance near Everglades City serves the park's western side. Miami International Airport is the primary gateway for visitors flying in.
Best Time to Visit
December through April — the dry season — is the best time to visit: cooler temperatures, far fewer mosquitoes, and wildlife concentrated around visible water sources. Summer's wet season brings heat, humidity, and daily storms, though it's also when the park is at its quietest.
