About

La Playa Grill sits on the water near Biscayne National Park, which puts it in rare territory: a sit-down spot with actual bay views in an area where dining options are genuinely scarce. If you're spending the day at Biscayne or heading to or from Everglades National Park, this is a real meal with a real view, not a gas station sandwich.

The outdoor seating is the draw. You're looking out over a small bay, and on a good evening with live music going and a margarita in hand, it's hard to beat the setting. The blackened Mahi Mahi gets consistent praise, and the chicken sandwich is the kind of portion that'll have you skipping dinner. Happy hour specials make the drinks easy to justify.

The menu covers familiar American seafood territory: fish, shrimp, burgers, the usual suspects. It's casual, unpretentious, and set up for groups and families. Brunch, lunch, and dinner are all on the table, and they do takeout and delivery if you'd rather eat at your rental.

Live music adds something on the right night. Check their schedule before you go so you can time it right. (Bug spray is a smart call if you're sitting outside after sunset.) Parking is available on site, which matters out here where everything is spread out.

We were happy this place was open as we were visiting Biscayne National Park and there isn’t much else near this spot. There was only one other table taken so I hope the business is doing OK… The chicken portion on the sandwich is huge! Our server was very attentive, friendly and quick Parking is a bummer at $7.84 but I don’t think it’s the restaurant’s fault. And like some places, they do charge extra to use a credit card.

Had the fish special with shrimp on top. Shrimp was overcooked, but fish was fine. Had a margarita was fine. Server was great, went in a off night only one other couple there. Fun play to try and hang out.

The worst place I have dinned out. I don’t recommend it! It is truly very expensive and they don’t know how to cook at all. They used mojito to cook something they call steak. In addition, it was raw or not cook medium rare at all. Not to mention that could possibly have been cooked well done. I couldn’t tell, because the taste was horrible. Moreover, the steak was so thin, that was obviously no possible to cook it medium rare. Finally the female server was very unpleasant and not knowledgeable at all, we had to request the child seat, instead of offer it. I had to go and pick it up, because she told someone, that couldn’t observe that it was for the table that had the only child. The worse experience ever! And now reviewing my check, they charge you a service charge as well.

I dined here and had a mixed experience. The outdoor seating offers a lovely view of a small bay area by the ocean, which is a highlight. The blackened Mahi Mahi and plantains were delicious, bursting with flavor. However, the outdoor-only setup comes with challenges. Mosquitoes were a major issue, making it hard to enjoy the meal. They provide bug spray and have fans, but these only helped so much—bugs were still biting and even getting into my food, forcing me to leave halfway through. The table was also uneven, which was annoying. I ordered a lemonade since I was driving, but it had an odd, barely citrusy taste that didn’t feel like lemonade. The food and view are great, but the bug problem and outdoor limitations need addressing.

Well well well.....the one thing going for this place is the view. I have been there a few times now. This time was a Monday, lunch time, after visiting The Biscayne National Park next to it. Probably the only reason I went. I was hungry and there is no where else to eat for miles.....fry, fry, fry and super crispy fried food....that's the menu...I understand they have live music over the weekend but, not my type of music, not my type of craw. I guess, it is not my idea of a seafood restaurant on the water. Sheap quality vibes al around. And please don't get me wrong, I will go again, (during the day time and weekdays) just because I like the feeling of having a drink and pick over some fry food over the water. I just don't know of another place near by around this end of my world.......
