Your first stop for everything Everglades: exhibits, trail maps, park films, and rangers who actually know the park.
Before you drive into Everglades National Park, stop here. The Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center sits right at the main entrance off SR-9336 in Homestead, and it's genuinely worth 30 to 45 minutes of your time before you head deeper into the park.
Inside, you'll find interactive exhibits that work for both kids and adults. Hands-on displays explain the ecosystem, the wildlife, and the history of how this place came to be protected. The free short film is worth catching. It gives you real context from multiple perspectives, and you'll appreciate the park more for having watched it. Rangers are on hand to answer questions and help you figure out what to do based on how much time you have.
The gift shop carries souvenirs, snacks, drinks, and ice cream. It's not a full café, so if you're planning a long day in the park, bring your own food and water. (There are no restaurants inside the park itself, so this is your last real stop before you're on your own.)
Right outside the building, there's a clear pond that often draws wading birds close enough to photograph without a telephoto lens. No park pass is required to access the visitor center itself, which makes it a low-commitment first look at the Everglades for anyone still deciding how deep they want to go.

Nice rest stop as you are crossing the Tamiami Trail. Lots of gators to see, especially during colder months. Make sure you watch the free short film about the Everglades, inside the visitor center. Bathrooms were portables as main bathrooms were closed.

Loads of information for the park visitors. Informative displays, lots of hands on items for children. I enjoyed the film, it presented more information about the park from several perspectives. Sadly, the ladies rest rooms were undergoing renovations at the moment, my loss, but I'm sure it will be a good thing for the future. Tomorrow I have a Heritage cruise which I am looking forward to.

Nice little visitor center with a aouvenir shop along with some cool interactive displays. Plenty of stuff to look at. Nice and clean restrooms and the gift shop does have a small selection of snacks, drinks and ice cream. It is important to note that you do NOT need a pass to access this area. The pay station for the passes is past this visitor center.

Beautifully designed Visitors Center with a clear water pond right outside and multiple educational installations inside. The interactive exhibits are both educational and entertaining, keeping kids busy. The gift shop has multiple items but limited food options (no restaurants or cafes nearby) so plan accordingly. Bathrooms are basic but very clean.

I was so excited to begin my trip into the park! What a treasure but the staff and visitors center is a good quick stop. educational and some good info worth having.
