About
Old Ingraham Highway follows the remnants of the first motorway ever built to Flamingo, opened in 1922 and long since replaced by the modern main park road. Today it's an out-and-back hiking and biking trail of roughly 11 miles one way through pine rockland and past small ponds, with the old road's crumbling limestone surface still visible in places.
It's a flat, straightforward route popular with cyclists covering more ground than the shorter boardwalk trails allow, and with hikers looking for a longer, quieter walk through the Long Pine Key area. There's no shade for most of the route, so plan for sun exposure and bring more water than you think you'll need.
