About

Pinelands Trail is a short, paved, wheelchair-accessible loop — about 0.4 miles round trip — located roughly 2 miles west of the Long Pine Key turnoff on the main park road. It's one of the easiest ways to walk through pine rockland, a globally rare habitat found almost nowhere outside South Florida.

The trail winds through slash pine forest with an understory of saw palmetto and native wildflowers, a sharp contrast to the sawgrass marsh most Everglades trails pass through. It's a quick stop — 10-15 minutes — that rounds out a day focused on the park's wetland trails with a look at its upland side.
