About

Flamingo, at the southern end of the main park road, is one of the park's best general birding areas thanks to its mix of mangrove and coastal prairie habitat around the visitor center, marina, and nearby trails. Eco Pond, near the campground, has historically drawn birders from around the world for wintering ducks and shorebirds, along with Bald Eagle, Roseate Spoonbill, and wintering songbirds like Painted Bunting in the surrounding vegetation.

Birding here is good throughout the year, but winter (dry season) concentrates the widest variety of species as water sources elsewhere in the park shrink. Pair a visit here with the nearby Snake Bight Trail for one of the park's most complete birding days.
