Birding Snake Bight Trail

Snake Bight Trail runs about 1.6 miles one way (roughly 3.2-3.6 miles round trip) south from the main park road to a boardwalk observation platform overlooking the mangrove-lined bay. It's one of the best spots in the park for coastal bird species, including Reddish Egret, along with mixed flocks of egrets, herons, ibis, and spoonbills, especially near high tide when birds concentrate along the water's edge.

Summer is the best season for hard-to-find resident species like Mangrove Cuckoo and Black-whiskered Vireo, which breed in the mangroves here. Winter (dry season) brings the largest wading-bird flocks.

Be warned: mosquitoes are a serious, well-documented problem on this trail, even in the cooler months. Long sleeves, long pants, and a head net are genuinely necessary, not optional — clothing is the only real protection, since repellent alone isn't enough here.
