Joanie's Blue Crab Cafe Historical Marker

A funky little roadside stop with real Everglades character and a side of gator bites.

About

Joanie's Blue Crab Cafe sits along the Tamiami Trail in Ochopee, right in the middle of the Everglades, and it's the kind of place that feels like it couldn't exist anywhere else. The building is small, the vibe is wonderfully funky, and the history goes deep. The adjacent historical marker connects the cafe to the old gas station next door, giving you a genuine sense of what this stretch of South Florida looked like long before anyone called it eco-tourism.

The menu leans into classic Florida roadside territory: gator bites, blue crab, fried seafood, and key lime pie. It's the kind of food that fits the setting. Reviewers consistently call out the gator bites as the thing to order. The staff gets mentioned a lot too, in a good way. Friendly, helpful, the kind of people who make a quirky roadside stop feel like a real destination.

Fair warning on the logistics: it's a small space and it gets warm inside. The fans do their best, but this is the Everglades in Florida. Outdoor seating lets you soak in the surroundings, which honestly is part of the appeal. Real gators have been spotted nearby, which families tend to love.

If you're driving the Tamiami Trail between Miami and Naples, Joanie's is a natural stop. It's casual, it's got character, and it's the kind of place you'll actually remember.

Cute place- small and quaint. πŸ₯΅ Super hot inside- tried cooling off with the fans inside but just to hot. Food was alright, we didn't try any fish or gator pricey for our day.

This place in the Everglades is so comfortable and cute. The food was very good. And our host Wilson was so helpful and Pleasant. Can't wait to go back. A little magical place with the gators . πŸ’‹πŸ‘

The servers are very nice and helpful, I really liked them. The food is good only if you are a fan of fast food. Most items on the menu are deep fried, the crab cake was a bit dated, and coleslaw has too much sauce. I felt bloated after having lunch here. That was worth 60 usd

Very funky place, great history for restaurant and gas station next door. We had gator bites, which were good. However, the key lime pie fell flat, no lime taste.

Food was good. Prices were high for what you get. I don't think I'd return.
