The staff here is extremely pleasant and attentive. This visitor's center provides a nice place to stop for a brief visit. It doesn't take much time to have a quick jaunt down the boardwalk, overlooking the water. I am told the manatees have been sighted recently, but we did not happen upon them during this visit...maybe next time! There is a cute little gift shop, a NP stamp station for those who collect them. The site is located quite close to the camping area, so it is a convenient location for RV'ers and people traveling between Naples and Miami to visit. There is also not a fee for entrance, which is a pretty cool perk! Don't forget to grab yourself a map from the counter! There are a number of nearby boardwalks, trails, and nature drives to check out. Just be mindful, if you aren't familiar with this area...it is *very* important to monitor your communications signals. Cell service may be lost on those dirt road/scenic trails, and if you run into an emergency, you may have to wait for a passerby before you can call for assistance. I recommend bringing a radio, or other emergency communications device, or to at least coordinate with a friend or family member letting them know to look for you after "x" amount of time if they haven't heard from you! Don't forget to grab a JR ranger book for the kiddos before you explore, either!
