About

If you're flying into Miami and heading straight to Everglades National Park, having a car isn't optional. It's essential. The main park road runs 38 miles one way, and the trailheads, visitor centers, and observation spots are spread out. Avis has a Homestead location that puts you close to the action without backtracking into the city.

The fleet covers the basics: standard sedans, SUVs, and larger vehicles that work well for gear-heavy trips. If you're planning multiple days in the park, an SUV is worth the upgrade. More cargo space, more comfort, and the slightly higher clearance doesn't hurt on unpaved pull-offs.

Booking in advance is the move here, especially around the holidays and peak winter season when South Florida fills up fast. Avis Preferred members can skip the counter entirely on qualifying rentals, which saves time when you'd rather be on the road toward Anhinga Trail than standing in line.

The location sits in Homestead, about 10 minutes from the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center entrance. That proximity is the main practical advantage. You're not adding an hour of highway driving before your trip even starts.

I regret not reading the reviews for this Avis location prior to conducting service. I tried renting locally to save time, but every experience here has been problematic. I did not leave a review for the first experience I had with the elderly Caucasian man who was at the counter, but as a Preferred Member, I was too frustrated to let this go. The staff—specifically a Latinx woman with long black hair at the front counter—is consistently rude and unprofessional. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, I was immediately scolded for being late, despite my attempts to call ahead.l and advise. I was given a dirty SUV as an "upgrade," even though I requested a car for better fuel economy. Upon returning the car on Sunday, I called to say I would arrive at 12:56 PM (they close at 1:00 PM). Despite arriving before closing, the Latinx woman locked the door and refused to check me out in person, forcing me to use the drop box. She held the conversations with me through the closed glass door and she refused to close out my contract. Please keep in mind that she did not believe the facility until 1:21 p.m. Today, I received a receipt with an arbitrary gas charge claiming the tank was short by 0.7 gallons. There is no way for a customer to measure fuel to that decimal point when the gauge only reads "F" for Full." This location seems to have a pattern of disrespectful service and now I must add questionable billing practices.

On December 1st my wife utilized a corporate discount to rent a Tesla Model 3 from December 20th through December 28 for the price of $542. On the 17th of December we called to ensure that our rental was still available due to the overbooking that is expected hospitality based companies, especially in Florida are practicing to ensure they don't loose their investments. However the company representative told us that the vehicle was in and that it would be ready and waiting for us within the three days. Obviously that's is not what happened! Itching to get on the road we showed up 30mins early, when we were finally seen by a female representative we were approximately 15 minutes early. We were then told that the vehicle was not there and that all they had was a Jetta that just got returned infront of us. I asked about the phone call to verify and the lady dismissed it as if it was a common practice to solidify customer appearance. I asked about the similarities clause and guarantee the woman then stated that she had a ev vehicle possibly returning after 1200 that's all they could do. Angered by the entire ordeal my wife call a centralized number to relay our experience as the woman at the actual local was not trying to rectify the lapse in contractual obligation on their front. The HQ was worst. We called and spoke to a gentleman now an hour past the expected time of departure. The gentleman listen then turned into a sales man and selling a 30% off of a Mustang Mach E at another location after calling the woman on location who then tried to lean on the contract now stating we showed up before the appointed time. Then the call dropped from HQ and they did not attempt to call back as the issue still was not resolved. Clearly frustrated yet remaining respectable and tactful my wife called back telling a woman that we had just been dropped and the woman not being able to differentiate as to why the price with the 30 % was a hundred and 50 dollars over the original price that we locked in. We were instructed to go back to the original location to receive a Toyota Camry hybrid with front tires that needs rotation for consumer safety. This is definitely a lack business ethics and customer service response. I recommend driving to the airport

Was told to come here by budget to get a replacement car because of a flat tire. Not only did they not help in any way, but did not state the Firestone takes care of their tires. Just happen to luck out and find Firestone down the street. Budget should have a list of approved dealers to fix tires.

Avis corporate instructed me to go to this location to swap my car. I drove an hour to get there and the lady at the counter went in the back to speak to the manager. I heard them talking. She came back and said they couldn’t help. I explained that corporate sent me and provided all my information. She went back again and emerged only to tell me that the manager told me to go to the airport (another hour further) to swap the car. He could not be bothered to tell me this himself. This has to be run by an incompetent independent franchisee to be this bad.

Do not bother showing up to this location as no one seems to work the desk during business hours. My Avis rental car check engine light was on and having electronic climate control issues. I wanted to switch out this vehicle so I stopped into this location during posted business hours and the manager left his cell phone number on the door to call, he was at the Miami Airport. There was a worker in the back wearing an Avis shirt, cleaning cars but said he could not help us because he didn't work for Avis.
